Join us to play test Blurred Lines, the card game where you guess where your friends draw the line, then argue with them when you guess wrong. Our prototype is hot off the press, so you’ll be among the first people in the world to play it. Come have a drink, meet new people, and debate questionable moral choices ranging from juicy gossip to deep philosophy. No ethics degree required.
What’s the game?
Each round, one player becomes the Judge. They read a scenario card aloud and secretly decide whether they agree or disagree, while everyone else tries to predict their answer. Guessed wrong? Don’t worry. You get three minutes to change the Judge’s mind, while those who guessed right fight to keep the Judge on their side. Points go to everyone who predicts the Judge’s final answer, so a good argument can turn a wrong guess into a point.
Scenarios range from questionable favours to outright betrayals:
- John cheated on his girlfriend Sarah during a work conference.
- Priya suspects her partner is cheating, so she reads his texts while he’s in the shower.
- Léa’s friend asked her to be a reference for a job she isn’t qualified for. Léa said yes and talked her up anyway.
Prefer something more cerebral? The expansion packs have you covered:
- Philosophy: The Ship of Theseus has every one of its original planks replaced over the years. Is it still the same ship?
- Trolley Problems: A runaway trolley is speeding toward a single researcher tied to the tracks. You can pull a lever to divert it onto a second track, where it will instead destroy a research facility’s only copy of its cancer cure data.
- Cyberpunk: If a neural implant could permanently delete a traumatic memory with zero side effects, using it would be a reasonable act of self-care.
Want a twist? Try a variation:
Silent Judgement
The Judge can’t say a word during the debate, so you’ll have to read their face to tell whether your arguments are landing. Poker faces encouraged.
Joker Play
Normally, everyone locks in their prediction with a card that says AGREE on one side and DISAGREE on the other. In Joker Play, those cards get shuffled and dealt out each round, and one of them says AGREE on both sides. Whoever gets it has to agree, no matter how bad the decision. Hope you’re good at justifying bad choices!
FAQ
Can I come alone?
Absolutely! We’ll match you with a group. You’ll arrive knowing no one and leave knowing exactly where they all draw the line.
What kinds of scenarios are there?
The base set has seven categories: Friends & Family, Health & Beauty, Love & Romance, Money, Neighbourhood Strife, Social Media, and Work. We also have four experimental expansion packs: Cyberpunk (futuristic and transhumanist scenarios), Philosophy, Science & Tech, and Trolley Problems. More info: https://blurredlines.cc/en/packs/
If it’s a play test, what are you testing?
Mostly the scenario cards. Do we have the right mix of categories? Do some players gravitate toward the gossipy drama and others toward the philosophical or futuristic cards? Do the cards actually split the table, or does everyone agree? Which ones do you love, and which ones should never see the light of day? We’re also checking that the rules make sense and are clearly explained. In short, we want your honest opinions. After a night of this game, you’ll have plenty.
When’s the Kickstarter?
Spring 2027, and thanks for asking! Sign up for email updates or find us on social media through https://blurredlines.cc
Is there a dress code?
No. You’ll be judged on your morals, not your outfit.
How much does it cost?
Admission is free. Please support the bar by buying food or drinks. It’s the least ethically ambiguous choice you’ll make all night.
Can I show up late?
Yes, latecomers are welcome. Whether that’s forgivable is up to your table.
Is the event LGBTQ+ friendly and accessible?
Yes. Studio 42 is committed to a welcoming, safe space for everyone, and we celebrate diversity across all ages, ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
