Should We Try To Change Minds?

Dale Carnegie said that "there is only one way under high heaven to get the best of an argument - and that is to avoid it."

We claim to value truth but we often hate the methods by which truth is arrived at. Topics like religion, politics and ethics are avoided in the workplace and at dinner parties for fear that disagreements will become toxic and split families or coworkers. Study after study in psychology has shown that facts and logic do not change minds.

Should we even try to talk about differences in opinion? Or should we put our differences aside and strive for harmony? Does every opinion have value? How do we handle disagreement?
