Reckoning With Colonialism

Colonialism is the practice of taking political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically, often using violence and coercion. It seems unimaginable today, that colonialism was practiced and widely accepted less than 100 years ago. Colonialism has so heavily scarred its victims, and so thoroughly destroyed its victim cultures, that it has inter-generational effects, and those who did not experience it directly still live with the consequences of these past crimes.

What are the lingering current-day effects of colonialism? Does the colonial mindset still affect our choices and politics? How should we make amends or reparations for these past crimes? What do we do about the problem of colonialism?
